STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN / RankWire.AI / – Swedish industrial production contracted by 1.5% in June compared to the same month last year, according to official statistics. When adjusted for seasonal factors, output also fell by 0.4% from May. Statistics Sweden reported that the industrial Production Value Index was at 112.4, down from 112.9 in May. The June figure follows a revised 7.6% yearly growth in May, indicating a clear reversal from the previous month’s robust annual increase.

Manufacturing output saw a decline of 1.0% from June 2025 and decreased by 0.4% from May. Mining and quarrying experienced a sharper downturn, falling 13.8% year on year, and also dropped 3.3% from May. Industry accounts for 20.2% of Sweden’s broader private-sector production measure, with manufacturing making up most of this share at 19.4 percentage points of the total.
Despite the decline in June, industrial activity remained higher over the second quarter. The average output from April through June increased by 4.0% compared to the same period in 2025. Seasonally adjusted data shows a 4.8% rise in production from the previous three months. Additionally, Sweden’s total private-sector output grew in June, up 0.4% from May and 1.8% from a year earlier.
Broader private-sector output experiences annual expansion
Services production dipped 0.2% from May but remained 3.0% above its June 2025 level. Construction activity increased by 2.0% month-on-month and grew 7.6% from the previous year. The services index was at 111.9, slightly below 112.1 in May. Construction figures rose to 94.9 from 93.0. Services constitute 67.2% of the wider production measure, with construction accounting for 8.4%.
According to separate data from Statistics Sweden, new industrial orders saw a significant rise in June. Total orders surged 32.3% from May after seasonal adjustment, and were 29.9% higher than June 2025 on a calendar-adjusted basis. Export orders increased by 56.5% from May and 57.6% year-on-year. Domestic orders remained nearly unchanged from May but declined 7.4% compared to the previous year.
Export demand jumps, led by transport equipment gains
Transport equipment showed the strongest growth among main industrial order categories. Orders in this sector increased 101.0% from May and 118.2% from June 2025. Manufacturing orders grew by 33.2% month-on-month and 31.2% from the previous year. Capital-goods orders rose 45.5% from May and 50.7% annually. In contrast, mining and quarrying orders declined, decreasing 1.8% monthly and 19.0% compared to the previous year.
For the first half of 2026, total industrial orders were 4.0% above the same period in 2025. Export orders increased by 6.6% over this six-month span. It is important to note that the production and orders indicators cover different aspects of industrial activity: the Production Value Index reflects changes in output at constant prices, while the orders series measures new demand from both domestic and international clients. Monthly preliminary figures may be revised as additional data becomes available.
